A best practice organisation ensures that all employees have the opportunity to learn and develop within its framework and that career opportunities are open to employees with disabilities on the same basis as other staff members; in other words, based on the skills, competencies and abilities to perform the tasks which are essential to the role. Through the use of performance appraisals/reviews an organisation should actively encourage employees with disabilities to apply for promotion. A best practice organisation has a commitment to equal opportunities which supports staff advancement and development to the most senior levels of management within the organisation, thus enabling the staffing structure to have the potential to become inclusive at all levels of seniority.
