Retention & Well Being

(in association with Dublin Chamber of Commerce)

A best practice organisation has an absence management or a retention policy/procedure in place, outlining a co-ordinated and structured return to work plan. A small company might not have a policy in place but must demonstrate a positive attitude towards retaining an employee who acquires a disability or long-term illness. These would also take into account early intervention and reasonable accommodations for any employee who acquires a disability during their time with the organisation. These organisations will have recognised the multiple advantages associated with retaining employees rather than recruiting and training replacement staff and thereby losing valuable knowledge and experience. They will have a proactive approach to staff development, employee health and overall employee and organisational well-being. This could include an accident prevention programme.
